Jabalpur, Dec 4 (UNI) Five dacoits, including the foster son of the old woman whose local residence was targeted by them, have been arrested and jewellery recovered, the police said.

On November 29, the criminals struck at Shakeela Begum's home in Ramnagar locality and looted about Rs 28,000 worth of jewellery. The woman was assaulted, gagged and blindfolded by the dacoits who bolted the front door from outside before vanishing from the scene.

A team headed by City Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh was formed to crack the case. Yesterday, a tip-off was received about some ruffians planning a dacoity. A cordon was set up and the accused -- Maqbool Ahmed, Pervez Alam, Ajit Chouhan, Kishore Singh Rajput and Israr -- apprehended.

They confessed during interrogation. The plot to target Shakeela was the brainchild of Alam, who was the foster son. Two crude guns, three cellphones, and two vehicles were seized.
