Exposives seized, one held

Virudunagar (Tamil Nadu), Dec 4: Police seized a huge cache of explosives at Sri Villiputtur town in Virudunagar district and arrested one person in this connection here.

Police said the jeep used to trasport the consignment was impounded and the driver K Shanmungharaja, 27, arrested yesterday.

The seizure includes 1,500 detonators, 199 gelatine sticks and four gunny bags of ammonium nitrate.

The arrest was effected by 'Q' Branch police engaged in monitoring Sri Lankan militant activities.

The seizure was made while the consignment was being transported to Peraiyur Taluk in adjoining Madurai district having a presence of a large number of sand quarries.

Further investigation is on.
