Curfew relaxed as Aurangabad and Nanded limp back to normalcy

Aurangabad, Dec 4 (UNI) Curfew was relaxed from 0600 hrs today in Aurangabad and Nanded districts, which were marred by violence on the issue of desecration of Ambedkar statue in Uttar Pradesh, following an improvement in the situation.

Curfew was imposed in the two districts of Marathwada in order to maintain law and order.

However, no untoward incident was reported during the curfew period and it will be lifted totally in a phased manner, police said.

Schools and colleges today re-opened at Aurangabad after a gap of three days, while markets, industrial activities and business establishments too were opened after a gap of nearly four days.

Curfew will be re-imposed from 2130 hrs to 0600 hrs in Aurangabad tomorrow.

The authorites in Nanded will review the situation in the evening, before taking any decision on extending the curfew there, officials said.

''We are awaiting for the developments in Nagpur to unfold, and will review the situation in the evening,'' District Superintendent of Police Fattesinha Patil told UNI.

One company each of the Border Security Force (BSF) had been deployed in addition to the three companies of the State Reserve Police Force in Aurangabad and Nanded respectively, police added.
