Bypoll: Heavy voter turnout

Kozhikode, Dec 4: An estimated 18 to 20 per cent voters exercised their franchise by 0900 hrs in Kerala's Thiruvambadi Assemmbly bypoll which began at 0700 hrs today.

Sources said polling was peaceful as no untoward incidents were reported from anywhere in the constituency.

Reports from polling stations said voters in large numbers started arriving outside the booths by 0630 hrs.

The byelection was necessitated by the death of CPI (M) member Mathai Chacko.
