BJP decides to boycott LS and BAC meetings

New Delhi, Dec 4: Accusing the Government of ''suppressing the Opposition's voice'', the Bharatiya Janata Party, in protest, boycotted Lok Sabha and its Business Advisory Committee meetings this afternoon.

Speaking to mediapersons here, BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said that BJP Parliamentary Party would meet here tomorrow where the future course of action would be decided.

Saying that the BJP members wanted to express concern over the arrest of party president Rajnath Singh while on his way to Singur to protest against the controversial farmer's land acquisition for Tatas, he noted they were not allowed to do so.

''While Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day amid din over the issue, Lok Sabha, ignoring rules, completed the debate on the price rise issue when the whole house was in uproar. Besides the Railway Appropriation Bill was also introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour,'' he said, alleging that the Government and the Lok Sabha Speaker had together ''tried to gag the Opposition.'' ''We have therefore decided that the party would not participate in the Business Advisory Committee meeting to finalise agenda for next week,'' Prof Malhotra said.

He charged the Left Parties with having double standards on economic issues and foreign investments.'' While the Left opposed the Centre on these issues, they vigoruously pursue a different approach on foreign investments in West Bengal,'' he claimed.
