Bengal snatch points after Ranadeb's high five
Kolkata, Dec 4 (UNI) Ranadeb Bose churned a fine spell of fast bowling on the final day of the Ranji Tie today to help Bengal get two points from what looked like a dead rubber polishing off Mumbai for 372 in their first innings, 204 runs behind Bengal's mammoth total of 576.
Well placed at 206 for two last night, Bose struck early today taking Mumbai captain Amol Mazumdar for 39 and after that Bengal chipped away at the Mumbai wickets at regular intervals. Sourashis Lahiri came in for a fruitful spell in the middle taking R Sharma and R Power to leave Mumbai a lame duck with the middle order gone.
Ranadeb Bose returned to polish off the tail and make sure Bngal took points home from the tie. Bose's figure read an impressive five for 69.
As for Mumbai B Thakkar went on to complete 150 runs and was eventually removed by Bose for 157 studded with 24 boundaries.
Having earned the points for getting the first innings lead, Bengal captain Deep Dasgupta forced the issue and asked Mumbai to follow-on. Though time was not on his side he was going for an improbable all out victory.
But Mumbai openers Kukerja and Mane played 56 deliveries each to see out the day, leaving the visitors at 23 for no loss at stumps.
