Athavale and Ambedkar detained in Nagpur
Nagpur, Dec 4 (UNI) The police today detained 40 activists when they were denied permission to stage a morcha here to protest against the recent killing of four members of a Dalit family by villagers in Khairlanji in Bhandara district of Vidarbha region.
Several prominent leaders also participated in the protest on the first day of the Maharashtra Assembly.
Among those arrested were Ramdas Athavale, MP, former MP Prakash Ambedkar, former Maharashtra Minister of State Sulekha Kumbhare, Rajendra Gavai, Gangadhar Gade and D Raja, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) B K Upadhyay told UNI.
The situation in the city was peaceful and under control with no untoward incident being reported, Mr Upadhyay said.
