Arunachal govt under criticism

Itanagar, Dec 04 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Setong Sena today criticised all the government departments for their failure in responding to the audit queries.

Inaugurating a seminar on 'legislature and audit interface for enforcing and strengthening accountability mechanism' here, Mr Sena said though the theme was of immense relevance to all democracies, the overall response of the government departments in this context was dissatisfactory.

Delayed and 'vague' responses of the government to audit references at all stages as well as the recommendations of the public accounts committee (PAC) and committee on public undertakings (COPUs) have almost a norm rather than an exception.

'' This is a cause of serious concern,'' Sena said.

Mr Sena also called for an objective review of the situation and to take stock of the various problems that hinder the PAC from acting as an effective mechanism for enhancing accountability of the executive.

The seminar which had been held in the NE region was jointly organised by Shillong based office of accountant general (audit) and state legislative assembly to address the issues of accountability in the context of rapid changes faced by public audit, principal accountant general (audit) Rajib Sharma said.
