Lucknow, Dec 4 (UNI) Admitting to 21 political killings in Uttar Pradesh between 2004 and 2005, the Uttar Pradesh government today ruled out, any law was under consideration to keep criminals away from politics.
In a written reply to Dr Narendra Kumar Singh Gaur (BJP), Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said while there were eight political killings in the state in 2004, the number went up to 13 in 2005.
The CM maintained, the state police was constantly tracking down hired/professional killers to avoid in future such incidents. ''As per requirement, the government is also providing gunners or 'shadows' to political personalities,'' he added.
Mr Yadav maintained that killings in the past were analysed to workout strategies to counter such threats.
The CM ruled out there was any proposal before his government to enact laws to keep criminals away from politics.
