11th plan proposals to include Central Institute for Tamil

Chennai, Dec 4 (UNI) The proposal for establishing a separate Central Institute at Chennai exclusively for the cause of classic Tamil language would be included in the Ministry's 11th plan, Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh said.

In his letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, a copy of which was released to press here today, Mr Singh recalled his meeting with the latter recently at New Delhi, in which Mr Karunanidhi had pleaded for establishing a centre at Chennai.

He agreed with Mr Karunanidhi's suggestion that there was a need for special focus on the classical languages, he added.
