W R Mumbai, Punjab and Sindh Bank enter semi-finals

Lucknow, Dec 3 (UNI) The Western Railway (WR), Mumbai alongwith the Punjab and Sindh Bank have joined the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and the Punjab National Bank (PNB), Delhi for the semi-final stage of the All India K D Singh Babu memorial prize money hockey tournament here today.

In the third quarter final of the championship, W R beat Namdhari XI 4-3, while the Punjab and Sindh Bank defeated the South Central Railays (SCR), Secunderabad 2-0.

In the semi finals to be played tomorrow, the Western Railways will take on the Indian Oil Coporation and Punjab and Sindh Bank will clash with the PNB.

In the first quarter final of the day, W R Mumbai's jayesh Yadav strucK twice in the 9th and 22nd minutes of the first half taking the lead 2-0 and 10 minutes later Hardeep Singh consolidated THE lead to 3-0. Mumbai team was leading 3-0 till breather.

In the second half, Hardeep was again instrumental in scoring the last goal for Mumbai (4-0), thereafter, Namdhari players rose to the occasion scoring 3 goals in a row in a span of seven minutes but failed to level the score in the end.

Jasdev, Sukhwinder and Gurpreet scored one goal each in the 57th 60th and 67th minutes respectively.

In the second quarter final of the day though SCR gave a tough fight to Punjab and Sindh Bank but could not save from the ignominy of 0-2defeat.

In the first half, both failed to surge ahead of each other and remained tied while in the second half bankman Parminder succeeded in scoring the first goal in the 42nd minutes (1-0), in the dying moments of the game Devender Singh increased the final tally to 2-0 by converting a penalty corner into goal.
