Undertrial dies in judicial custody

Jammu, Dec 3 (UNI) A middle-aged undertrial today died due to a fatal head injury at Kishtwar sub-jail in doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

Mukand lal, a resident of holoti village in sapphire valley of padder, ghulabgarh, was sent to judicial custody by sub-judge Kishtwar yesterday.

He was shifted to hospital this morning with severe head and nose injuries, sources said.

According to police, mukand lal had slipped while going to the bathroom early in the morning. He received a serious head injury and was shifted to hospital, where he succumbed at about 0830 hrs, they added.

However, sources said there were wound marks on his nose.

Mukand lal, a buddhist by religion, was sent to the judicial custody in connection with a complaint against him under food and adulteration act.

There was nobody from mukund's side to move a bail application.

An inquiry into the ''suspicious death'' inside the jail had been initiated by the civil administration, they added.
