Prithvi Theatre Festival concludes

New Delhi, Dec 3 (UNI) The two-day Prithvi Theatre Festival concluded today with the staging of three plays 'Cotton 56, Polyester 84', 'Bhagavadajjukam' and 'Kharaashein' The concluding day began with 'Cotton 56, Polyester 84' by Arpana theatre group. The show told a true-to-life saga of mill workers of Girangaon-historical textile mill district of Mumbai. The play won many a accolade from the audience. It was hard-hitting, funny and poignant.

''People are hungry for good work and this spirit has kept us going. Although the world of theatre is non-real but people relate to it, they feel, they cry and they laugh. This is the power of theatre'' said 'Cotton 56, Polyester 84' director Sunil Shanbag.

Next Delhiites savoured hilarious Bhagavadajjukam by Abhinaya Theatre Research Centre. It captured and catapulted the running madness and chaos into the era of globalisation.

Festival bid goodbye to Delhi with Essay Communication's Kharaashein-a dramatic collage of Gulzar's literary creations on the riots, interwoven with his poetry. People flocked in huge numbers to watch Kharaashein.

Theatre has survived against all odds isn't it proof in itself that people want to see it, said one of the artistes.

Theatre to Delhi is not new but it is rekindling itself to provide quality entertainment to the people. ''We want something concrete, something more realistic that is why we are here,'' said a young man here at the festival.

Demand for good work is gaining echo among the masses and they see theatre as a relief from regular Bollywood masala films.

The mood at Prithvi Theatre Festival was very exuberant.

Delhiites enjoyed the weekend of festival thoroughly with fun, frolic, food and lots of powerpacked performances by professionals as well as amateurs.

The festival concluded today but it sure gave a lot of food to the creative appetite of Delhiites.
