Nitish to give compensation to Bhagalpur victims

Bhagalpur, Dec 3: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced compensation of Rs one lakh to the families of those killed in yesterday's train mishap near Bhagalpur railway station.

After visiting the accident site, Mr Kumar announced to pay Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured and Rs 30,000 to those who sustained minor injuries.

Besides, he said free medical treatment would be provided to the injured.

Holding Railway Minister Lalu Prasad responsible for the accident, Mr Kumar said such tragedy could have been averted if the laid rules were followed by the railway administration.

Fearing similar situation in the near future, he had also directed the Eastern Railway general manager to repair the another dilapidated bridge, near the pond adjoining Muslim High school, here at the earliest.

The Chief Minister had also asked to close the traffic by putting a gate and level crossing for the repair work of the bridge.
