Kerala: World Cinema at IFFK gets new films

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 3: A host of movies, from various parts of the world, that have won wide appreciation have been included in an exquisite package of World Cinema at the 11th International Film Festival of Kerala to be held here from December 8 to 15.

Out of the 42 films to be screened, 35 were released within the last 18 months.

A release issued by the organising committee said, the films in the package included Pedro Almodovar's 'Volver' (Spain), which won applause in the 2006 Cannes Festival, Ken Loach's 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley'(Germany), Hany Abu-Assad's Oscar nominated 'Paradise Now' and the award winning Little Red Flowers(berlin Film Festival, 2006), to begin with.

Other noted movies in this section included, Jean-Mare Vallee's 'C R A Z Y' which won many international awards, Rafi Pitt's 'Its Winter Zemesthan' (Iran), Jafar Panachis''Offside,' 'Whiskey' a joint venture by Suanpablo Rebella and Pablo Stollo, Michael Haneke's 'Cache' (Frtance), Carlos Saura's 'Iberia' (Spain), Marion Hansel's 'Sounds of Sand (France) and Satyajit Maitipe's Scent of Lotus Pond (Sri Lanka).

As if that was not enough, some other show stealers include names like 'Kim-Ki-duk's 'The Bow' (South Korea), Nuri Bilge Ceylan's 'The Climate' (Turkey), Sarah Watts' 'Look Both Ways (Australia), Bohdan Slama's 'Something Like Happiness' (Germany), Rabah Ameur-Zaimeche's 'Bled Numbert One' (French) and Adrian Caetano's Beunos Aires (Spain).

Vishal Bharadwajs' 'Omkara' and Goutam Ghose's 'Yatra' are the Indian movies in the package.
