Mumbai, Dec 3 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna will tomorrow inaugurate the 'Armed Forces Flag Day' at Darbar Hall in Raj Bhavan, an official statement said here today.

The Armed Forces Flag Day is observed throughout the country by raising funds for the welfare of ex-servicemen, their dependants, families of those who embraced martyrdom and disabled servicemen.

This is the first time that such an exercise is being undertaken here.

Citizens and officals, who did outstanding work of fund-collection last year will be felicitated by the Governor on the occasion.

He will also be the Chief Guest at the 'Operational Display' and 'Beating Retreat' hosted by the Western Naval Command as part of the Navy Week celebrations at 1715 hrs tomorrow at the Gateway of India, a Raj Bhavan statement said.

Traditionally, Navy Day is observed on December 4, to commemorate the daring attacks launched by the Indian Navy on Karachi harbour on this very day in the year 1971.

During the preceding week, the Navy organises a number of events to highlight the memorable occasion and create awareness among the citizens regarding the activities of the Indian Navy, the statement added.
