Guwahati, Dec 3 (UNI) The four-day-long 21st Engineering Congress with the theme of "Challenge of Engineering for sustainable growth and beyond" will be organised by Asom State Centre of the Institution of Engineers(India) from December 21 at Guwahati.

Main objective of the Congress would be to provide a common platform for engineers, technocrats to exchange views and opinions.

Speaking at a press conference, Chairman of the organising committee Dr P K Goswami informed here last night that about 2000 technocrats and engineering scholars from different parts of the country and abroad would take part in this mega event for the first time in the region.

Working chairman A K Mitra said the North East has no shortage of skilled manpower and this would be a unique oportunity for engineers, technocrats, planners, developers and funding agencies to express their views and chart a road map for the nation to sustain continued all round growth.

He informed it was estimated that to achieve the vision of the country by 2020, double digit growth was required and this could be achieved through growth, including the manufacturing and agricultural sectors. The scenario thus poses multi-dimensional challenges.

Asom Chief minister Tarun Gogoi would inaugurate the Congress on December 22. Union Minister of state for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Santosh Mohon Deb would grace the occassion as chief guest on December 24.
