Discharge increased to 10,000 cusecs

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 3 (UNI) The water discharge from the Stanley Reservoir at Mettur across river Cauvery was increased for irrigation purpose this morning in view of the demand from the farmers of the delta region.

State PWD sources said the water level in the reservoir stood at 115.490 ft, this morning as against full capacity of 120ft.

The discharge from the reservoir was increased to 10,000 cusecs, while the inflow was 5,523 cusecs.

From Grand Anaicut in Thanjavur district, about 1,784 cusecs of water was let out into river Cauvery, 3,001 cusecs into Vennar, 2,218 cusecs into grand Anaicut canal and 509 cusecs into river Coleroon for irrigation purpose, they added.
