Curfew reimposed in Aurangabad, relaxed in Nanded
Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Dec 2: After a relaxation of six hours, curfew was today reimposed in the city for four hours, while relaxation continued in Nanded, as the situation showed marked improvement.
The Marathwada region witnessed violence following the desecration of the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at Kanpur on Tuesday.
Though, there was no any untoward incident reported from any part of the Aurangabad city during the six hours relaxation, curfew was reimposed as precautionary measures for four hours from 1200 hrs, police sources said.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Co-operative Minister and Aurangabad District Guardian Minister Patangrao Kadam chaired a peace committee meeting held at the Police Commissionerate here this morning.
Cutting across party lines, representatives of various political parties including MP Chandrakant Khaire, former Maharashtra Minister of State for Home and MLA Rajendra Darda, MLAs Kalyan Kale and Abdul Sattar attended the meeting, which dwelt upon the efforts needed for maintaining law and order situation in the city.
District Superintendent of Police, Nanded, Fattesinha Patil told sources over telephone that the curfew which was imposed in the town at 1800 hrs last evening was relaxed at 0600 hrs in the morning today. ''We are monitoring the situation and a review would be taken in the evening,'' he said.
Situation, in other troubled town Osmanabad remained peaceful on the second day today where curfew was lifted yesterday morning.
