Statue desecration: Curfew imposed in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, Dec 2: Curfew was reimposed here today from 0800 hrs to 2000 hrs after relaxation of two hours, police said.

This was done as a precautionary measure after violence sparked off in the city again following desecration of bust of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in Kanpur, they said.

An announcement to this effect was made by Deputy Commissioner of Police K G Patil.

He told mediapersons the curfew that was clamped in the city from 2000 hrs last night to 0600 hrs this morning, was relaxed for two hours from 0600 hrs till 0800 hrs. Later authorities decided to reimpose it till 2000 hrs tonight, he said.

Three companies of State Reserve Police are assisting the local police. So far 39 people have been arrested in combing operation Mr Patil added.
