BJP meets Kalam demanding President's Rule in UP
New Delhi, Dec 3 (UNI) Top BJP leaders today met President A P J Abdul Kalam demanding President's Rule in Uttar Pradesh, due to deteriorating law and order situation in the state in view of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
The party delegation, led by Deputy Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj, while apprising the President of the precarious law and order situation in UP demanded that Article 356 of the Constitution be invoked and the present Samajwadi Party government be dismissed if free and fair elections were to be conducted.
The constitutional machinery in the state had broken down and goons were having a field day in the state under the leadership of Mulayam Singh Yadav, they said and added that President's Rule was a must to honour the democratic rights of the people.
BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, UP BJP president Keshari Nath Tripathi and former state BJP president Kalraj Mishra were among those who accompanied the delegation.
Earlier in the day, UP Governor met Home Minister Shivraj Patil and discussed the political situation in the state in view of the Opposition demand for imposition of President's Rule in the State.
