A notorious rowdy killed in police encounter

Bangalore, Dec 3 (UNI) A notorious rowdy Nagaraju alias Shimoga Naga was killed in a police encounter in the early hours of today in the city.

City Commissioner of Police Neelam Achutharao said that, on getting a tip, City Crime Branch sleuths, tried to stop a Maruthi car in which the notorious dacoit and supari killer was coming, but instead of stopping the car, the culprit opened fire on the police who returned. Shimoga Naga alias Shimoga Nagu, who received two bullet injuries on his heart, died on the way to hospital.

Shimoga Nagu was involved in 31 criminal cases, including four murder and two attempt to commit murders and a number of robbery, dacoity and extortion cases reported in Bangalore, Nelamangala, Mandya, Mercara, Shimoga and Chitradurga Districts. He was also wanted in three cases reported in Nelamangala Police Station in Bangalore Rural District. He had been convicted earlier in a case of robbery reported at Sadashivanagar Police station limits in the City.

Police Commissioner said that it was revealed that Shimoga Naga was in the process of establishing himself as an underworld don.

Recently he had tried to murder one Sarpesh and his associates in the limits of Parappana Agrahara Police Station. However, the gang was nabbed after a long chase.
