6 debt-ridden farmers commit suicide in Vidarbha
Nagpur, Dec 2: Six more debt-ridden farmers, including a woman in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region, have allegedly committed suicide yesterday.
Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working among farmers in the region in a press release issued here today said, the farmers who ended their lives yesterday included two each from Wardha and Buldhana districts and one each from Akola and Amravati districts.
Among them was a woman farmer Mrs Vachchhala Kawadu Chaudhari of Bhankheda in Wardha district, the release said.
With this, the number of farmers to have have committed suicide in Vidarbha since June 2005 has touched 1,158, the press release said adding, 550 out of these 1,158 are those who took the extreme step since the announcement of the Prime Minister's relief package on July 1 last.
