RPI morcha passes off peacefully barring stray incidents
Kolhapur, Dec 2 (UNI) A 'morcha', jointly organised by different factions of the Republican Party of India (RPI) and other Dalit organisations to protest the desecration of a bust of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Kanpur on Tuesday, passed off peacefully barring stray incidents of stone-pelting, here today.
Different Dalit groups, who had gathered at the historic Binduchowk here, took out a march to the district collectorate, shouting slogans condemning the desecration.
After reaching the collectorate, RPI leaders from different factions addressed the audience and demanded stringent action against the guilty.
However, enroute to the collectorate, some activists who had participated in the 'morcha' pelted stones at a truck and a car.
With the exception of these two incidents, the 'morcha', by and large, passed off peacefully.
Stone pelting incidents continued in the district in the day, police said.
Meanwhile, as part of the on-going protests, a bandh was observed in Kagal tehsil here. The bandh has been peaceful, police said.
