Rain makes mercury drop in MP

Bhopal, Dec 2 (UNI) Intermittent rain is being recorded over the past few days in Madhya Pradesh and today's downpour in the state capital made the mercury plummet.

Agriculturists said that the winter rainfall, known as 'mawthey' in the region, was beneficial for the rabi crop. Bhopal witnessed overcast skies since morning and a hal-hour-long downpour commenced at about 1100 hrs. The maximum was 22.5 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal, while the minimum was 14.8 C.

Climatologists said that the precipitation was caused by cyclonic circulation in the vicinity of Madhya Pradesh. Rainfall is likely in Bhopal, Rewa, Sagar, Jabalpur, Indore and Hoshangabad divisions over the next 24 hours.

Jabalpur division also witnessed overnight rain. The state's lowest temperature was 7.6 C at Rewa. Tikamgarh, the citadel town Gwalior and the world-renowned tourist destination Khajuraho recorded 9 C.
