Police lathichrge on protesters

Gulbarga, Dec 2 (UNI) Police resorted to latchicharge to dispersing a group of stone throwing youth who were protesting against the descretion of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar's statue in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh recently here today.

Police said more than 200 youths took out a procession in protest against the the descretion of Ambedkar's statue in Kanpur which had evoked large scale violence in the neighbouring Maharashtra, and started throwing stones on shops and passing vehicles.

The processionists also tried to force commercial establishments including hotels to down their shutters. To quell the agitaging mob the police resorted to lathicharge and disbursed the gang. Police also took some of the activists into custody in connection with the incident.
