PNB qualify for semis

Lucknow, Dec 2 (UNI) Panjab National Bank (PNB), Delhi entered into the semi-finals of the 27th All India K D Singh Babu Memorial Prize Money Hockey Tournament beating Indian Air Force (IAF), Delhi here today.

In the first quarter final being played at the Dhyan Chand Astro Turf Stadium of the Guru Gobind Singh Sports College here, PNB beat IAF 2-1.

Both PNB and IAF displayed neat stick work during the 70 minutes encounter. Both tried their best to score but their custodians thwarted the moves.

In the 29th minute of first half, Navdeep Singh of PNB made a solo attack, which paid dividend to his team by scoring a field goal (1-0). At the lemon break, the bankmen were leading 1-0.

In the second half, Navdeep increased the tally to 2-0 after scoring through a penalty corner in the 43rd minute.

For IAF, Manoj Kanaujia reduced the margin in the 62nd minutes.

With this win, PNB qualified for the semis in the tournament.
