Mob attacks police, 3 arrested

Varanasi, Dec 2 (UNI) A mob today attacked a police team, which had raided an illicit liquor shop in Sarhari village here.

On a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Sarhari village under Lohta police station area last night to bust the illicit outlet, being run by former village pradhan Om Prakash.

Due to stiff resistance of villagers, the police had to return empty handed.

A police team, led by Lohta Station Officer Sajid Siddiqui, today raided the place again. But, the locals led by Om Prakash attacked the personnel.

Later, more policeman along with the PAC reached the village and arrested three people including Om Prakash. Ten litres of illicit liquor was also seized.

Investigations were on.
