Hit-and-run accused gets bail
Mumbai, Dec 1 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today granted bail to Alistair Anthony Pereira, accused of running his car over people sleeping on pavement of Carter road in suburban Bandra, leading to death of seven people and injuring eight others.
Justice S T Dharmadhikari directed him to pay a compensation of Rs 30,000 each to the breaved families, Rs 15,000 each to the six wounded who have recovered and Rs 25,000 each to the two wounded still under treatment in hospital. The compensation will be paid within a week, the court directed.
The accused, who had been in custody since the day of accident on November 12, was granted bail on furnishing a surety bond of Rs 25,000.
