E-city films launches ''Babel-the-Book''

Panaji, Dec 2 (UNI) E-City Films, which is distributing Brad Pitt starrer ''Babel' in India from December 29, today launched 'Babel-The Book' here.

The film, which has won the best director award for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu at the Cannes film festival this year, is the closing film at the 37th IFFI which will be screened tomorrow.

The film has grossed 1.5 million USD worldwide. The book was launched by the state Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane.

The book combines images and the director's first hand experiences while shooting the movie. It has been compiled by the director himself along with top photographers.

Mr Atul Goel of E-City Films said the book was a stunning visual recollection of the parallel stories and the real life characters that revolve around the making of 'Babel', which was shot in Morocco, Mexico and Japan. The values of the film and the book which touched him were that in all miseries and trying times, people and nations go through,there is always hope and everybody comes out of it due to their own will and determination, he added.

'Babel' has toured festivals at Cannes, Toronto and London where it closed the 50th year of UK's premier event. Lauded by the critics as the ''director's most beautiful, ambitious and heart wrenching picture yet, 'Babel' traverses through mysterious locales in Morocco, Mexico and Tokyo. The film interweaves four complex multilingual stories of mishap, tragedy and misunderstanding, all to a devastating effect.

Brad Pitt plays an American tourist failing to connect with his wife played by Cate Blanchett. As victims of unintentional crime, Pitt and Blanchett form one of the stories that bind people from around the world.

'Babel' is being released with 30 prints in major cities across India.
