Deepan Chakravarthy has it easy in Subroto memorial chess
New Delhi, Dec 2 (UNI) Grandmaster J Deepan Chakravarthy of Indian Oil displayed high quality chess to outwit Manoj Sharma in the second round of Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee memorial FIDE rated chess tournament here today.
Like Deepan, almost all stalwarts coasted to easy victories.
Second seed Umakant Sharma of Jharkhand accounted for P V Rao in another one sided affair of the day.
Deepan did not give many chances to Manoj Sharma who played with white and opted for an irregular opening. The Grandmaster used the first opportunity to launch an attack and the rest was just easy.
After a first round walkover, Delhi's best bet and International Master Sriram Jha had it easy against state-mate Manjunath Jain where the former played with black and succumbed without any real fight. Jha is seeded fourth in the event behind former National Champion P Konguvel who is also on two points from as many games.
A total of 239 players are taking part in the tournament and the total prize pool of the 11-round tourney is Rs. 3 Lakhs with Rs.
60000 reserved for the winner. Nine rounds still remain to played in the tournament.
