Curfew reimposed in Aurangabad, relaxed in Nanded, O'bad, Hingoli

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Dec 2 (UNI) Curfew has been reimposed here since 0800 hrs this morning, but lifted in Osmanabad and relaxed in Hingoli and Nanded towns of Marathwada region, which remained tensed as the dalit activists were still protesting against the desecration of bust of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in Kanpur.

Though, no fresh incidents were reported from any part of the Aurangabad city, the divisional headquarter of the region, the authorities have decided to reimpose the curfew here after the two hours relaxation between 0600 hrs and 0800 hrs as a precautionary measures, Deputy Commissioner of Police K G Patil told UNI.

Mr Patil further said three companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been assisting the local police to maintain law and order situation. Thirty-nine people have been arrested during a combing operation carried out in sensitive parts of the city last night, he said.

Barring few fresh incidents of stone pelting and arson reported from Jalna district in the region late last night, the situation was nearly peaceful in the central Maharashtra's Marathwada region, which had witnessed a spate of violent incidents in almost all the eight districts in last three days, forcing the authorities to clamp curfew as a precautionary measure.

''Situation in the troubled towns is nearly normal today, and no major violent incident has been reported since last evening,'' Special Inspector General of Police Bhagwantrao More told UNI over telephone from Osmanabad, where he has been camping to monitor the situation.

At least two persons died in Osmanabad, one in police firing and another in a scuffle between police and the agitating mob last Thursday.

Curfew has been relaxed in the jurisdiction of three police stations of Nanded --Bhagyanagar, Vajirabad and Shivajinagar since 0700 hrs, police control room sources said.

Curfew was also relaxed in Hingoli since 0600 hrs after marked improvement in the situation there, sources said.

Sitaution in Parbhani, Latur and Beed was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from these districts since last evening, police sources at the respective district control room said.
