Cong to launch movement against atrocities on farmers in WB

New Delhi, Dec 2 (UNI) Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs P R Dasmunsi today condemned the brutal police atrocities on innocent farmers and landless labourers in Singur, West Bengal, to facilitate forcible possession of land for Tata Motors and said the Congress would initiate a peaceful movement to ensure the rights of farmers.

In a statement here, Mr Dasmunsi said the Left Front Governemnt should have taken the farmers into confidence without brutal atrocities. He said the Congress party strongly denounces the inhuman action of the state police against the farmers.

Consulting party leaders, the Congress would initiate peaceful movement to ensure the rights of the farmers and protect their human rights, he said.

Though as a Parliamentary Affairs Minister, he disapproved the action taken by the Trinamool Congress in ransacking the West Bengal Assembly, Mr Dasmunsi said in no case, any sensible citizens of West Bengal could defend the inhuman atrocities on farmers in Singur as had been exposed in electronic and print media.

''I advise the Chief Minister of West Bengal to advise the police not to resort to any such violence and immediately take steps to ensure the confidence of the farmers and bring them back to their homes,'' he said.
