Campaign ends for Thiruvambadi bypoll
Kozhikode, Dec 2 (UNI) Campaigning for the December four Thiruvambadi bypoll, necessitated following the death of a CPI (M) member, came to an end this evening.
United Democratic Front candidate V M Ummer of the IUML and ruling Left Democratic Front's George M Thomas of the CPI(M) were the main contenders for the bypoll caused by the death of DYFI leader Mathai Chacko.
BJP candidate Gireesh Thevalli and three Independents were also in the fray.
Digital cameras have been installed in all the 153 pollings booths in the constituency, which has a total 160,984 voters, including 82,035 women.
The UDF camapign was spearheaded by Defence Minister A K Antony, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, Minister of State of External Affairs E Ahamed, Kerala Opposition leader Oomen Chandy, KPCC president Ramesh Chenniatha while Chief Minister V S Achutanandan, CPI (M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and the state ministers, among others, led the LDF battle front.
