California, Dec 2 (UNI) Arjun Atwal put on a vastly improved show for a two-under 70 but could not prevent himself from dropping further down to the tied 63rd spot after the third round of the US PGA Tour Qualifying School Finals here.

The Orlando-based Indian has a three-day total of even-par 216.

Atwal sank in four birdies against two bogeys as he carded his best so far in his bid to gain full playing privileges in the US Tour next season. The Indian is allowed to play in 15 events next year after gaining a conditional card for his 140th place finish on the money list last season.

The former Asian Tour number one was in scintillating form in his front nine as he sank in birdies on the second, fourth and sixth.

However, he could not keep it blemish-free and dropped a shot on the eighth to make the turn at two-under.

In his backward journey, Atwal saved a shot on the 12th but a bogey on the very next hole prevented him from finishing higher up the leaderboard. The Indian is aiming to finish the six-round event among the top-30 to regain his US Tour card, which he lost after missing 18 cuts in the 33 events played this season.
