7,000 live tortoises seized, one arrested

Lucknow, Dec 2 (UNI) Forest department officials today seized about 7,000 live tortoises in Civil Lines area of Etawah district and arrested one person in this regard.

Official sources said here the reptiles were being transported in a vehicle, stuffed in 86 gunny bags. The vehicle was later confiscated.

However, the destination of the wildlife consignment was yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, steps were being taken to release the tortoises in river and the accused was under intense interrogation of the forest officials.
