33 killed as bridge collapses over running train

Bhagalpur, Dec 2 (UNI) At least 33 passengers were killed and 55 injured when the dilapidated portion of a road overbridge collapsed over a running Express train near Bhagalpur railway station in Jamalpur-Sahibganj section under Maldah division of Eastern Railway today.

Eastern Railway General Manager S S Khurana said the toll was likely to increase as rescue operation was on.

Altogether 28 bodies had been retrieved so far from the debris, while five succumbed to their wounds in the local hospital.

Another 55 injured passengers were undergoing treatment in civil hospital here.

Train services in the section remained suspended since the occurence of the accident.
