25 Jamalpur-Howrah express passengers killed
Bhagalpur, Dec 2: At least 25 passengers were feared killed and about 30 others were injured when a coach of the 3071 Up Jamalpur-Howrah super express train derailed after a bridge near Bhagalpur railway station collapsed early this morning.
Officials said that one coach slipped off the collapsed bridge when the train was approaching Bhagalpur station under the Jamalpur-Sahibganj section of Maldah division (Eastern Railways) at around 0630 hrs.
The coach, a reserved one, was totally smashed while another one was partially damaged, they added.
Senior railway and civil officials rushed to the accident site with medical teams. Rescue operations were on at full swing, railway sources said.
Train movements in the section were suspended following the accident.
