24 fishermen injured in clashes over nets

Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Dec 2 (UNI) Twenty-four fishermen were injured, four of them seriously, in a series of clashes among themselves owing allegience to Congress and the opposition Telugu Desam parties at Campbellpet near here.

According to police, yesterday clash ensued over the distribution of 300 kg of nylon fishing nets to 360 fishermen in the village.

Among the seriously injured persons included TDP activist P Govindaraju.

The injured were admitted to the Guntur Government General Hospital and the District Headquarters Hospital here. Three of them were later shifted to the General Hospital in Vijayawada.

Cases have been registered against both the groups.
