Violence continues unabated in Akola
Akola, Dec 1 (UNI) Violence continued unabated for the second consecutive day today in the city in protest against the desecration of a bust of Dalit icon Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Kanpur on Tuesday.
Several shops were forced to down their shutters due to heavy stone-pelting in the Khadan area of the city, while a 'Rasta Roko' was observed at Guddhi and Ugwa villages near here, as passengers were forcibly alighted from ST buses before smashing their window panes, eye-witnesses told UNI.
A truck was set ablaze on the national highway late last night, police said.
Additional companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been deployed at various sensitive points in the city and the national high-way to avoid any further untoward incidents, police said.
The situation is tense but under control, they added.
Meanwhile, night load-shedding was not observed here yesterday in view of the tension prevalent in the city, officials said.
