Valmiki released on bail in Ambedkar statue case

Kanpur, Dec 1 (UNI) Arun Valmiki, who was arrested in connection with Tuesday night's desecration of a bust of Dr B R Ambedkar, was released on bail here today.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) former District President Gayadeen Kureel said the demand for a magisterial investigation, which is also mandatory, has been accepted after a delegation met the DIG (Kanpur range) Daljeet Chaudhary.

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up to avoid any untoward incident.

Tension brewed when unidentified people vandalised a statue of Baba Sahib Bhim Rao Ambedkar in Kakadev area infront of Kulvanti hospital.

Police had taken seven people into custody, including Valmiki yesterday.

On interrogation, Valmiki had reportedly confessed his involvement, saying he along with his two friends, had committed the crime in an inehriated condition.
