TTD chairman inaugurates vidwat sadas at Vedagiri

Tirumala, Dec 1 (UNI) Tirumala-Tirupathi Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board Chairman B Karunakara Reddy today inaugurated the 24th Veda Sastra Agama Vidwat Sadas at Vedapatasala in Vedagiri situated in the seven hills today.

Stressing the need to protect vedas, Mr Reddy, speaking on the occasion said vacant faculty posts would be filled up soon in view of increasing student strength in the vedapatasala.

After a gap of 14 years, the prestigious veda sadasulu was conducted last year and the TTD was conducting this year also, Devasthanams Executive Officer APVN Sarma said adding that the Trust Board at its earlier meeting had taken a decision to conduct such sadasulu every year.

Secretary to Andhra Pradesh Governor Mr Gopal, who participated on behalf of Governor Rameshwar Thakur, said scholars and veda pundits from all over the country are expected to take part in the Viswa Veda sammelam to be held at Ujjaini from January 13 to 17 next year.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur, in a letter to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee recently wanted particulars about the functioning of 54 vedic universities in the world to avoid duplication in the implementation of courses in the newly formed Sri Venkateswara Veda Viswavidyalayam at Tirupati, he added.

Wishing the six-day mega event a great success, the Governor in his message said vedas offer eternal values that helps individuals to transform as 'Poorna Purusha.' Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, in his message said the world famous Lord Balaji temple was always in the forefront in promoting and spreading spiritual values through vedic education for more than a century.

At the meeting, prominent scholars urged the government to treat vedas as heritage and sanction funds to protect it and for its development.

Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth Chancellor Dr V R Panchamukhi, Lal Bhadhur Sastry Sanskrit Vidyapeeth Vice-Chancellor Vachaspathi Upadhya, besides large number of scholars and veda pundits from all over the country participated in the Sadasu.
