Train services disrupted in Bengal

Kolkata, Dec 1 (UNI) Train services on the Eastern Railway, including Howrah, Asansol, Malda and Sealdah Divisions were disrupted today due to the 12-hour Bangla Bandh called by Trinamool Congress.

According to official sources, sporadic obstructions or throwing of banana leaves on overhead wire caused power supply failures which disrupted train services in some sections of Sealdah Division.

Train services were disripted on the Howrah Division at Seerampore in the early hours.

On the Bandel-Katwa section, train services were disrupted at the Bishnupriya station and at Miagram. Train services on the section were also affected because of obstructions at Bhandartikuri, Purbastali and on Howra-Barddhaman Chord line section.

In Sealdah Division, train services are getting affected either due to sporadic obstructions or throwing of banana leaves on overhead wire. Obstructions also took place at Canning and Madhabpur since the wee hours.

Normal train services could not be maintained because of throwing of banana leaves on overhead wire between Lakshmikantapur and Nischindapur.

Train services were delayed at Mallikpur, Gede, Chandpara, Chakadah and Nabadwipghat.

At Kankinara Railway staff were removed from the cabin by bandh supporters, but returned due to police intervention.

However, long distance trains and suburban train services from Howrah station were normal. Three long distance trains namely, 2019 up Howrah-Ranchi Shatabdi Express, 3017 up Ganadevata Express, 3317 up Black Diamond express and Poorva Express left Howrah as scheduled.

Long distance trains including Shaktipunj Express, Mithila Express, Gorakhpur Express, Jamalpur Express, Bagh Express, Jodhpur Express, Danapur Express, Kamrup Express and New Delhi-Howrah Superfast Express have already reached Howrah this morning.

The 5657 Up Kanchanjungha Express left Sealdah this morning and long distance trains like Darjeeling Mail, Gour Express, Teesta Torsa Express, Poorvanchal Express and Balia Express reached Sealdah in the morning.
