SP's Braj Bhushan set to get elected to RS unopposed

Lucknow, Dec 1 (UNI) Ruling Samajwadi Party candidate Braj Bhushan is all set to get elected to the Rajya Sabha unopposed.

No other candidate has filed nomination for the bypoll hich was necessiated following the death of industrialist and MP Lalit Suri.

Mr Bhushan had filed the nomination papers yesterday to contest the polls.

Returning officer and Principal Secretary (Assembly) R P Pandey here said Mr Bhushan is the only candidate who has filed his nomination as the last date for its filing has expired today at 1500 hours.

Mr Bhushan, a former Lok Sabha member, is a native of Siddharthnagar district and is associated with socialist movement since a long time.

Tomorrow the nomination papers would be checked for its valadity and the official announcement of the winning candidate would be made on December 4 after the expiry of the time to withdraw the nomination papers.

Independent RS member Suri died of a cardiac arrest in London in October. The term of the seat expires on July 2010.
