Special drive for birth registration in MP

Bhopal, Dec 1 (UNI) A special campaign for the birth registration of all unregistered children up to 10 years and the issue of birth certificates till January 10 next year underway in Madhya Pradesh.

Earlier in the first phase, all children born since 1993 were covered, and the second phase would cover all unregistered children.

The registration would continue till December 20, official sources said.

Under the action plan, lists of unregistered children of three different age groups -- up to 21 days old, 30 days old and 30 days to one-year-old --had been prepared from November 14 to 21. A separate fourth list of children of over one year age had been made, while lists of non-school going and drop-outs were also prepared.

For children up to 21 days old, Panchayat Secretaries would make the registration and issue the birth certificate free of charge, while the birth registration for 21 to 30 days old children birth would be made on payment of late fee.

For children in the age group of 30 days to one year, an affidavit for delayed registration would have to be submitted as per the provisions of the Birth and Death Registration Act.

Patwaris had been authorised for the preparation of affidavit in village itself. For granting permission in pending cases the registrar of Janpad (Block) Panchayat had been authorised.
