New Delhi, Dec 1 (UNI) The Congress today slammed the BJP for adopting ''double standards'' in suporting and presenting its party MP Navjot Sidhu, who was convict of murder, before the media in the precincts of Parliament in a ''bid to draw sympathy for him.'' ''These are the people who give lectures to us on morality,'' Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told mediapersons at a briefing in Parliament premises, quipping that ''those living in glass houses should not throw stones at others,'' in a reference to the BJP's attack on the UPA Government on the Shibu Soren issue.

Charging the BJP with ''making a virtue out of a crime'', the spokesman said the BJP was presenting it as ''an instance of road rage'', but stressed ''murder was murder...whether it is a five-year-old or a ten-year-old case.

Underlining that it was not merely a charge but conviction by a High Court, Mr Singhvi said that what was ''condemnable'' is the ''immorality in presenting a murder convict before the media in the hallowed precints of Parliament as a victim of a casual event,'' adding that it was a judicial conviction.

Charging the BJP with ''standing by a person who has been convicted twice by two courts,'' he said it was presenting him as if as Sidhu was ''an accused in a traffic offence.'' ''These double standards must be exposed,'' he said.

Drawing a distinction with the Soren case, Mr Singhvi asserted that his party never presented the JMM supremo before the media in any capacity. ''Within 24 hrs of his conviction by the court, his resignation had been sought,'' he noted.

''He would certainly quit as an MP too,'' he said, in reply to a question.

When it was said that an Akali leader had alleged that the verdict against Sidhu had ''deliberately been timed'', Mr Singhvi said the person levelling this charge should come out in the open and face the law in the court.
