Sick North 24 Parganas units to be revived: Asim
Barrackpore, Dec 1(UNI) West Bengal Finance Minister Dr Asim Dasgupta today said the state government is trying to revive some of sick industrial units in North 24 Parganas which had been closed for several years.
Addressing a press conference organised to announce the North 24 Parganas District Industrial Trade Fair-2006 tomorrow, Dr Dasgupta said, ''At least 124 units had been closed in this area. We are in the process of reviving some of these units.'' He also said a new "Nano Technology" unit, which is fisrt of its kind, would be set up soon by a company. However, he did not reveal the name of the company.
Talking about the state's targetted GDP, he said, ''West Bengal had already announced its 10 per cent GDP target this fiscal.'' Earlier, he said, ''The state would highlight industrialisation policy through this fair. The state would focuse on its plans to establish new industrial units in North 24 Parganas, besides reviving a number of sick and closed units, development of cottage industries and generation of employment through self-help groups.''
