Sacchar report tailor-made for Congress politics
Lucknow, Dec 1: Uttar Pradesh urban development minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan today criticised the Sacchar Committee report on the status of Muslim saying it had failed to highlight real issues the community was facing.
The much-hyped report, tailored to serve the political interest of the Congress had clearly ignored the real plight of the community, he told the mediapersons here.
Mr Azam said it was beyond any doubt that the report would be used by the Congress in the assembly elections through 'fake' assurances to the Muslim community.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Khan said ''There is nothing new in the Sacchar report as everyone knows the actual condition of the muslims in the country.''Adding '' If Congress really care for the Muslims then it should amend the constitution to give special benefits to the community so that it can be educationally and socially uplifted.'' Blaming the Congress for the miserable condition of the Muslims during the last 45 years in the country, the senior SP leader said that SP had already conveyed to the Election Commission about the effort of the Congress to make public the Sacchar report in November when the UP assembly polls is scheduled in February.
'' we will aware the Muslim not to feel flattered by Sacchar Committee report as Congress has a distinction of breaking the promises like they did in Ayodhya demolition and minority status of Aligarh Muslim University(AMU)'', he alleged.
The minister also took strong note of the statement made by union minister for minority affairs A R Antulay that he had not studied the report before tabling it in the parliament.'' such statements prove the lack of seriousness and sincerity of the Congress towards Muslims'', Mr Azam said.
He said Congress should be blamed for the Muslim's plight as after independence the community enjoyed 34 per cent in government jobs which had slumped to one per cent at present.
The SP leader said his government would bring a resolution in the state legislature demanding amendment in the constitution to give Muslim dalits their due share in the reservation.
