Probe into dismal distribution of job cards

Patna, Dec 1: Apparently annoyed with the dismal distribution of job cards, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered a probe into it.

While reviewing the status of distribution of job cards in 38 districts under the Employment Gurantee Scheme (EGS) through video conferencing, Mr Kumar expressed deep concern over the poor performance in distribution of job cards yesterday.

He said the performance was not at all encouraging.

He directed the District Magistrates to inquire into the reason behind the fact and opined that either the ''apathetic attitude'' of the officials at the lower rank might be a reason behind it or the people do not need job as they might be engaged some where else.

During the review, some of the District Magistrates stated that their areas were waterlogged and the people could not be provided employment.

The CM directed to accelerate the distribution of job cards and asked to hold camps at Panchayat level for the convenience of the common people.

The Buxar District Magistrate revealed that 8,000 job cards were distributed against the registration of 23,000 unemployed. In Gopalganj 50,000 job cards were distributed against 1,15,000 registration while in Saran only 30,000 job cards were given against the resgiatration of 1,18,000.
