Srinagar, Dec 1 (UNI) National Conference (NC) chief Omar Abdullah has threatened to sue his bete noire Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti if she does not retract her allegations against him and his family within seven days.

The war of words between the two continues unabated and in fact has picked up tremendously over the past few weeks.

Addressing a party convention at Anantnag, Mr Abdullah rejected Ms Mufti's statement in which she stated that he had apologised to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf for all the wrongs committed by the NC and his grandfather Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and pleaded for handing over the Nedou family's property in Lahore to them.

The NC president threatened to sue the PDP chief for defamation and drag her to the court of law if she does not retract her statement within a week.

''During my meeting with President Musharraf, she (Ms Mufti) was not there. I wonder how she comes up with stories that I have talked about my grandfather and his property in Lahore,'' he added.

The NC president said the only thing he talked about in his meeting with Gen Musharraf was the NC's autonomy report. He also reiterated his party position that autonomy was the only viable solution to the Kashmir issue.

Mr Abdullah, a former Union Minister, also urged the Centre to allow those ''stranded'' on the other side of the Line of Control (LoC) should be allowed to return to their homes in Kashmir.

''They should be welcomed as citizens not as surrendered militants because they have not committed any crime,'' he added.

He also urged the Centre to seriously consider the recent ceasefire offer by United Jehad Council (UJC) chief Syed Salahuddin.
